Summary – Photo News 2020
The major project activities of Well Being Africa in 2020 are shown in the photo news document above. It comprises the Pilot Breastfeeding Support project and the Masked Heroes project, funded by the DG Murray Trust. The 2 projects were successfully executed between February 2020 and January 2021. The activities for the breastfeeding project included creating awareness about the project with the relevant authorities, setting up an SMS system to connect moms on BF support, training community health workers (CHWs) on BF support and care, and BF support for moms. At the end of January 2021, 335 moms benefitted from breastfeeding support, and 48 CHWs were trained to provide breastfeeding support in the communities.
The Masked Heroes project was an initiative to provide the frontline Community Care Workers (CCWs) in South Africa with personal protective equipment (PPE) and other support, thereby preventing them from becoming victims and vectors of COVID-19 infection. At the end of the project, WBA assisted in distributing over 800,000 units of PPE, including sanitiser, disposable and reusable masks, gowns, gloves, and Masked Heroes magazines to over 2000 CCWs in the Tshwane district.

So encouraging to see the good work you do in BF training and support, especially training CHW to provide good BF support and advice to the community. I want to know whether you have any opportunities in Pietermaritzburg, KZN, that I could connect with. I am a registered dietitian and also do lactation consulting, but I have a passion to reach a wider audience in order to improve the low rates of BF in our country.
